796 AD. Dark Ages Britain. Viking raiders are conquering swathes of land, paganism is being replaced by Christianity. And the four largest Anglo-Saxon kingdoms – Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex, and East Anglia – are in a constant game of diplomacy, alliance building, and conflict to claim the crown of Bretwalda, ruler of Britain.

9th century AD, Britain. The island is divided between several competing kingdoms collectively known as the Heptarchy. It cannot prevail any longer, the war for supremacy over them all is about to begin. Subdue the minor kingdoms of Kent, Alt Clut, Dumnonia, and Gwynedd. Use diplomacy, coercion, and, if necessary brute, military strength to overcome your rivals.
