In this game, you’ll take on the role of 18th-century naturalists, contemporaries of Carl von Linné. You’ll create collections of sketches and specimens of organisms, study them in your study, hire collaborators, and send them on expeditions. You’ll publish scholarly works, correspond with universities, and build your scientific reputation through research, discovery, and the acquisition of new knowledge.

In each of the game’s five rounds, you’ll use your lenses to perform actions such as overseas voyages to discover new specimens, drawing sketches, examining collected specimens, planting and cultivating flowers, corresponding with colleagues, and lecturing at universities. You’ll need to carefully choose when to perform which actions using various instruments in order to become the world’s most renowned naturalist. The game also offers an advanced variant in which players gain asymmetric abilities based on the skills of real-life naturalists from history.

Carl von Linné is a strategy game for 1–4 players in which you take on the role of an 18th-century scientist competing to unlock the secrets of the natural world. Each round, choose lenses representing the actions you want to take and assign them to optical tools that multiply their strength. As the game unfolds, acquire new and discard old lenses to build a unique toolkit of actions that shapes your strategy. Explore Scandinavia for rare specimens, research them in your personal study, cultivate a shared botanical garden, send followers on voyages, and correspond with scientific institutions to cement your legacy.
