A card game about friendship and snowstorms!

Oh no! Everyone’s favourite snowman, Olaf, has come tumbling apart, and it’s up to you to put him back together again!

Simply draw a card and play it! Anna and Elsa will help you put him back together piece by piece, but watch out – the Duke of Kradák and Prince Hans will try to thwart your plans! The first player to put Olaf back together in this fast-paced card game wins!

Disney Frozen: The Rolling Olaf is a family card game for 2–5 players, suitable for children aged 8 and over as well as adults. You should allow around 30–45 minutes per game. The rules are based on the simple principle of ‘draw a card and play one’, so even less experienced players will quickly get the hang of it at the table. At the same time, however, you’ll be keeping an eye on what the others have in front of them, assessing their options and timing the effects of each character correctly. Thanks to this, the game works well as a family game, but it doesn’t lose any of its excitement even amongst a group that’s already experienced with card games.

Product detailed description

Olaf has fallen apart again, and this time you’ll have to help him. In this fast-paced card game, you’ll use Anna, Elsa, Sven and other familiar characters to outwit your opponents and gradually piece together your very own Olaf.

Disney Frozen: The Rolled-Up Olaf is a family card game for 2–5 players, suitable for children aged 8 and over as well as adults. You should set aside roughly 30–45 minutes for a single game. The rules are based on the simple principle of ‘draw a card and play one’, so even less experienced players will quickly get the hang of it at the table. At the same time, however, you’ll be keeping an eye on what the others have in front of them, assessing their options and timing the effects of each character correctly. As a result, the game works well as a family game, but it doesn’t lose any of its excitement even when played by a group already familiar with card games. Knowledge of *Frozen* isn’t essential for playing, but for fans of the film, the familiar characters and the task of assembling Olaf will add another dimension to the game.

Olaf has rolled all over the kingdom and your task is to put him back together. Each player has their own jigsaw puzzle consisting of a frame and seven pieces. Over the course of several rounds, you’ll gain opportunities to return the individual parts of the snowman to their places. The first player to complete the whole of Olaf wins. In four- and five-player games, you also start with one or two pieces already placed in the frame, respectively, so the pace remains brisk even in larger groups.

A turn is very simple: you draw one card, play one of the two cards in your hand, and carry out its effect. It is the characters from *Frozen* who decide what happens next. Prince Hans allows you to guess an opponent’s card and, if you guess correctly, take it; the Duke of Kradák can take a card that has been played; and Oaken lets you look at an opponent’s hand and, if necessary, swap cards with them. Marshmallow, on the other hand, temporarily protects you from other players’ effects, whilst Elsa immediately grants you an extra turn.

What you collect in front of you during a round is also important. A pair of Pratrols adds one Olaf piece; when played together, Sven and Kristoff can bring in two at once; and Anna helps with one more piece. When the deck runs out, you compare the cards left in your hand, and the player with the highest value places two more pieces. One card is ‘buried in the snow’ in every round, so you can never be entirely sure which characters are actually in play. Simple decision-making thus naturally turns into a combination of guesswork, memory, timing and a touch of mischief.

  • You’ll grasp the basics of a turn in no time – you draw a card, play one and resolve its effect, so you can quickly get stuck into the game itself.
  • Each character offers a different way to influence the course of the round, and the simple rules thus create plenty of scope for reading your opponents and clever timing.
  • No one is eliminated from the game before the end of the round, so everyone stays involved and doesn’t have to wait for others to finish their own card duels.
  • Assembling the seven-piece Olaf gives your progress a clear physical form – with every piece you collect, you can literally see yourself getting closer to victory.
  • Anna, Elsa, Sven, Kristoff, Oaken and other characters aren’t just pictures on cards; their abilities directly determine your options during the game.
  • One card remains hidden in the snow each round, so even with a good memory you don’t have all the information and must factor in a bit of uncertainty.
  • The Pratrols, the pair of Sven and Kristoff, or Anna reward you for collecting the right cards, whilst the winner of the round takes another significant step towards building Olaf.
  • The variable set-up depending on the number of players keeps the race to complete the jigsaw balanced, whether you’re playing as a pair or with a full complement of five.
  • A small number of cards doesn’t mean few decisions – you’ll be guessing, swapping cards, taking characters laid out by your opponents and protecting yourself from their next moves.
  • Disney Frozen: Olaf’s Snowball Adventure combines the familiar ‘Love Letter’ gameplay with a new objective, so it will appeal to families as well as players who want to try out a familiar system in a different form.

Disney Frozen: Rollin’ Olaf is published by Z-Man Games and is based on the ‘Love Letter’ card game system. The original game was created by Japanese game designer Seiji Kanai. Its core mechanic – holding one card, drawing another, and then playing one of them – remains the foundation here, but this new version changes the objective of the game and adds the element of building your own Olaf.

In fact, the rules explicitly credit Kanai as the author of the original game.

Disney Frozen: Rollin’ Olaf was designed by Waleed Ma’arouf. The illustrations were created by Fireball Studio, specifically Alex Accorsi, Eilene Cherie, Marcos Eduardo and Rissette Schreiber. Tony Mastrangeli was responsible for the graphics and art direction.
